Notes: |
Hail pad was torn up a bit, with some pieces of foil missing, and rather deep indentations in the styrofoam backing.
Most of the hail stones had layers of white and clear ice, most with white exteriors, and then a hard clear layer, and then white again in the center. I had a class of 25 permaculture students here in my yard at the time of the storm, and later I sent them out with rulers to measure the stones. They found two that measured 2.5 inches in diameter. I saw many that were 1.5 inches in diameter, though most were smaller than that. Many car windshields were cracked, and all cars parked on the street had their hoods and other parts dented. Haven't been up on the roof yet to look for visible damage, but no leaks yet. All gutters on the house are clogged with shredded leaves, and shredded leaves cover the ground. Tomato plants stripped of leaves; lettuce, rhubarb, and other garden plants pounded severely. The insurance agents will be very busy today. |
