Notes: |
Hail report was witnessed at work, Mid-continent airport (ICT). Hail began shortly after the rain started, pea
size. Approximately 20 minutes into the storm the hail suddenly grew larger, up to 3/4". I was able to retrieve one hailstone which bounced into the shelter. It was oblong 3/4" X 1/2", it appeared pea stones had adhered to a central grape sized stone which had a milky center with a coating of clear ice, giving it
a LUMPY appearance. It is possible some of the stones
were in the 1" size range prior to hitting the tarmac
because they shattered on impact. Really wish I had brought the hail pad in from the truck before the storm
but this storm just exploded directly over us FAST. |
